Multi-Tasking is a Must

October 25, 2017
This post is sponsored by Smile Brilliant. I received their product in exchange for my honest review. As always, all opinions are my own.

Stay tuned at the end of this post for a GIVEAWAY and a coupon code!

Motherhood and muti-tasking go hand in hand. If I am not doing at least two things at any given moment, I feel like I am losing time and getting behind. It’s kind of amazing actually, how as women we can juggle several different tasks at once. I am the first to admit that a ball definitely gets dropped periodically, but if I don’t do the juggling game, them some things would never get done.

Smile Brilliant approached me in regards to trying out their professional teeth whitening system. My first thought was no way do I have time for that.  But then they explained that can I easily make teeth whitening a part of my day without taking time away from my family or other things I need to accomplish.  So, I agreed.  I mean, who doesn’t want a brighter smile?

I am really glad I did!  I don’t drink coffee (GASP!). I know.  I am probably one of ten people in the United States that doesn’t like the taste OR smell of coffee.  I do however drink wine.  I love me some wine.  Red wine.  Red, teeth staining wine.  And, this past year I have grown pretty fond of chai tea.  This is my favorite kind, mixed with unsweetened vanilla cashew milk.  Yum.  Both tea and wine have a tendency to discolor one’s teeth over time.  I hadn’t given teeth whitening a lot of thought because, well, who has time for that?  I can barely get my son’s homework complete, dinner cooked, kids bathed and in bed on time.  To throw one more thing in the mix just wasn’t appealing.

I assume I’m probably not alone in thinking that whitening your teeth is high maintenance.  And I’m here to tell you that this assumption, along with some other myths about teeth whitening, are just that…myths.  Let’s bust a few of them, shall we?

Myth 1:  Whitening your teeth is time consuming.
While we are on the subject of how little time we mamas have, let me just tell you, I was able to whiten my teeth without losing any sleep.  Literally!  And that’s a big deal!  I would pop the trays in while my boys were in the bath, whiten them for about 1-2 hours, and then remove them before it was time for me to hit the sack.

Myth 2:  Teeth whitening kits are expensive.
While the Smile Brilliant kit is more expensive than your at-home white strips, it is a much cheaper alternative to the kit you would get from your dentist.  Most dental offices charge upwards of $500+ for custom fitted trays. Why do you need custom trays?  The trays are a very important factor in insuring the whitening gel is evenly distributed on each and every tooth.  White strips don’t offer any sort of custom fit, and therefore the product is applied unevenly and can result in blotchy whitening.

Myth 3:  Whitening strips are more effective than gels.
Your inexpensive, at-home teeth whitening strips usually contain 6% hydrogen peroxide.  They require more applications to see results, and because there is not a custom tray, the likelihood of getting uneven results is pretty high, especially if you have teeth that aren’t perfectly straight.  Smile Brilliant’s professional grade teeth whitening gel is formulated with 22% carbamide peroxide, which temporarily opens the pores in your teeth and pushes the stains out.  Imagine those laundry commercials where you see the stains being magically lifted up and out of the fabric with the stain release bubbles!  It’s recommended to whiten at night so those open pores have sufficient time to close back up before you eat or drink anything again.

Myth 4:  People with sensitive teeth can’t use whitening kits.
The truth is, 60% of Americans experience some form of tooth sensitivity.  Smile Brilliant offers a desensitizing gel, which helps seal the pores and reduce the sensitivity of your teeth.  I used the desensitizing gel after every application and never once had sensitivity in my teeth.  I did experience some mild gum sensitivity, but at the advice of Smile Brilliant, I rubbed some coconut oil on my gums prior to whitening, and also skipped a couple of days between whitening sessions.  Once I started doing those things, the irritation disappeared.

Myth 5:  The whitening trays are uncomfortable.
The trays that come with the Smile Brilliant kit are custom!  That’s right, they are made just for your mouth, so they fit well and are comfortable to wear.  Everything you need to make an impression of your teeth comes in their kit.  It’s as easy as mixing two jars of putty together, biting down, and you’re all done!  Mail it back to them and in about a week you will have your custom fitted teeth whitening trays in your mailbox!  I have a permanent retainer behind my lower front teeth, and it didn’t cause any issues in making the trays or whitening my teeth.

Myth 6:  It’s risky.
Feeling hesitant to make an investment in this whitening kit because you’re worried you won’t get the results you hoped for?  Fear not my friend!  Smile Brilliant has a 45 day, money back guarantee!  If you’re not satisfied, they will refund your money!  That just goes to show you how confident they are that you will love your results!

So, let me stop talking the talk and show you my results.

Here are my before and after pictures.  I took these pictures myself, and they have not been edited in any way.  I used the whitening trays a total of 13 times over the coarse of about 5 weeks.  Some people get results much faster than this, but as I mentioned above, I opted to skip a few days between whitening sessions.  I also opted to whiten for shorter sessions, usually about 1-1.5 hours at a time.  This was just my personal preference, and others are able to whiten for a longer period of time with no sensitivity.

Lots of things can stain your teeth over time: tobacco, coffee, wine, tea, and certain antibiotics just to name a few.  And, plain ole getting older plays a factor as well.  If you haven been considering whitening your teeth, I highly recommend trying Smile Brilliant!  The process was easy, private, and reasonably priced.

And that’s something to smile about!
