Chase’s 3rd birthday: Bugs

September 27, 2016

Boys like dirt.  Boys like bugs.  My boy likes both.  So…BUG party with a DIRT cake it is!

Chase requested a pinata, so I made one by taping 4 balloons together and then covering them with strips of newspaper, dipped in a flour and water mixture.  Once it dried, I used Elmer’s glue to attach crepe paper.  I cut out the eyes and mouth from construction paper and used pipe cleaners for the antennae.  I decided that a bunch of 3 year olds swinging a bat at a pinata wasn’t a great idea, so I cut an opening in the bottom of the caterpillar and tied some strings to it.  Each child got to hold a string and on the count of 3, they pulled to open the caterpillar’s belly and let the goodies spill out.

Dirt cake with gummy worms!  Recipe can be found here.  We also had red beans and rice, salad, and cornbread.

Bug juice!  Click here for the recipe.
Weeeeeeee!  I love birthday parties!  Especially when they are my own!
