Patio Reveal

We have had quite the transformation in our back patio area this year!  Shortly after we moved into this house, we noticed that the basement flooded frequently during heavy rains.  We had a few different specialists come out and offer their opinions and basically, our backyard sloped down towards our house, which meant all of the rain would pool at the foundation and cause our basement to retain a lot of water.  This was an issue we were going to have to address sooner rather than later.

The amount of excavation work we would have needed was not something we were excited to spend money on.  So....as I shared in a previous post, we decided to install a swimming pool and kill two birds with one stone!  After all, a pool and a patio makeover is a much more fun way to spend your dollars than on plain ole dirt work!

Along with a new patio and backyard transformation, comes the need for seating and places to hang out/eat!  We kept our old table, which we have had for over 10 years!  This thing has lasted us a long time, and I spray painted it a few years ago to freshen it up.  It needs another coat of paint, but it's still in great shape, so we are keeping it for now!

I'm sure a lot of you recognize this rug!  It's my old kitchen rug.  (Still available HERE)  After getting a new one for my kitchen a few months ago, I decided to throw this one outside since it was pretty disgusting.  It's technically an indoor/outdoor rug, so I figured the rain could only help it!

These cute little pots and succulents are from Ikea!  They were very inexpensive and a cute way to add a little flare to the space.  I don't have much of a green thumb, but I have managed to keep all of my plants alive this year!  I probably just jinxed myself.  Meh.  Anyway, these don't require much water, which is right up my alley as far as plant care goes.

We joke that it's the umbrella factory around here!  We don't have any trees close to the pool, which is nice to keep the leaves out of the water, but we don't have shade until later in the evening.  Our pool company had a genius idea to put PVC pipe into the concrete, which then creates an opening for an umbrella.  We have several of them throughout the concrete, so we can move the umbrellas around as the sun moves and provide some shade while we are in the pool!

All of our new patio furniture came from Wayfair!  I am extremely happy with everything we purchased.  All of the sets are from different companies, but they all coordinate amazingly well and they are great quality for a really low price.

The rug and the pillows are all from Target (linked above).  I had a grand idea to get cushy, thick, teal seat cushions for this set to coordinate with the umbrellas, but I learned the hard way that not all patio cushions are the same size.  After a very extensive search, I gave up and just accepted that the skinny grey cushions, which came with the set, are just fine.

We have an umbrella hole in between the lounge chairs, so we can move an umbrella to shade them when we want to.  The lamps you see in the rocks are solar lights I purchased from Costco this year.   We love them because you just shove them into the ground, and they come on automatically each night!  Super easy!

Because we haven't had a chance to plant any greenery close to the pool yet, I tried to brighten things up with lots of potted plants this year.  I snagged these large blue pots from Costco, along with the Mandevilla plants that are in them.  They have flowered for the longest time and look so pretty!

This chair set came was actually a 3 piece set, but we didn't like the little table that came with it.  I have been loving these ceramic garden stools, and I actually found both the white and the blue one at Tuesday Morning.  They are available at lots of places though, so you may want to look at Target, Homegoods, and Wayfair too!  These chairs are currently sold out, but Wayfair has a lot of cute sets to choose from.

So, that's it!  Our little backyard oasis!  We have enjoyed entertaining family and friends this summer, and are looking forward to making lots of memories out here!
