Christmas Card Keepsake

One of my favorite traditions during the holidays is sending and receiving cards.  A lot of people are just sending cards via email or social media these days, but I still enjoy sending an actual piece of paper through the old fashioned mail system.  I love getting other people's cards in the mail also!

Before I hopped on the social media bandwagon earlier this year, Christmastime was the only time I get to see pictures of a lot of my friends and family members!  Even Chase has really enjoyed seeing what new cards we receive each day.  But then what do you do with all of the cards after the holidays are over?  I hated the idea of throwing them away.  I just couldn't bring myself to do it.  Knowing the effort people put into making their cards and sending them out was enough to motivate me to hoard them.  But, I didn't have a good solution, so for years they just sat in a "Christmas Stuff" box.

Last year, a light bulb went off, and I decided to hole punch each card in the upper left hand corner, and connect them with a book ring.  I got an 8 pack of book rings at Wal-Mart for just a buck or two.

I now have them grouped by year and it's so fun to flip through them and see how kids have grown and people have changed.

We have them in a box on our bookshelf, easily accessible to anyone who wants to take the time to look through them.  I knew I'd come up with a solution eventually, it just took me a loooooong time to figure it out!  Sometimes works out to be a hoarder.  ha!  It's not a super fancy solution, but it gets the job done and gets the cards out of the dusty box in the basement!

What do you do with your cards after the holidays?  Do you still mail cards or do you go the internet  route and send them via email/social media?
