Chase's 6th Birthday: Radioactive

This boy is not interested in trains, or trucks, or super heroes.  No.  He requested a birthday party that was RADIOACTIVE!

That's not exactly a common theme, so I had to put my thinking cap on for this one!  We had just moved into our new house 1 week before his party (what was I thinking?!?!?), so I was very thankful to have the barn to use as the party zone.  Our house was full of partially unpacked boxes!

Chase helped with the sidewalk chalk decor.  I found as many caution/danger signs as possible on the internet and printed them out.  We got Chase those orange cones as a gift.  What other 6 year old wants orange construction cones?  This kid cracks me up!

I searched the internet high and low for a child size yellow jumpsuit...but I was unsuccessful.  So, I had to resort to making one.  This was not as easy as I originally thought it was going to be!  It definitely was not perfect, but he loved it, so that's all that matters.  It's become kind of a tradition to have a bounce house at his parties so we did not disappoint with this one!  He looks forward to it every year.  In the past we had just borrowed one from a family member, but this year we decided to bite the bullet and get our own.  We purchased ours from Amazon.

I used Wilton sugar sheets to make the radioactive design on his cake.  They are comparable to a very thin sheet of fondant.  I used an exacto knife to cut out the shape I wanted and then I just laid it on top of the cake.  It was super easy!   To go along with the radioactive theme, we put dry ice in the bottom of the metal pan, and added hot water to make it steam.  It was a huge hit with the kids!

I made the invitation using Photoshop Elements
